Alijah put his faith in Jesus and was baptized at age of 9 because even at this young age, he knew Jesus was worth believing in. He continued to learn about God as he grew older and his hunger to serve the Lord and spread the Gospel grew around the age of 19. During this time, he learned about the importance of fellowship and started going to Bible Studies and Life Groups, which led to opportunities to serve at church, on a mission trip, and at weekly CRU gatherings. Alijah’s Young Adult Pastor, Dave, asked if he would be interested in exploring youth ministry at his church, and a YFC Ministry Leader, Nanette, encouraged him to check out Youth for Christ. He said yes to both opportunities and quickly fell in love with youth ministry. While volunteering at a Middle School Lock-In, Scott McCloughan, our Executive Director, and Camille, our Eastside City Life Director, encouraged him consider the Southside City Life Director position. As Alijah prayed and talked to others about it, it became clear that he should apply for the position. Alijah knows it was the grace of God faithfully leading him to serve here at Youth for Christ.
Alijah is passionate about the work of YFC because youth get to know Jesus and how to make Him the One that they build their lives upon. He sees the ways that the love of Christ is evident in the volunteers and staff and how God is moving in these teens' lives over time. He would have would have loved to be part of YFC when he was growing up and is honored to be a part of YFC now as a staff member!
