Youth for Christ

Youth for Christ is part of a worldwide movement committed to reaching young people with the hope of Jesus Christ. What began in the United States during the 1940s quickly expanded beyond national borders, and by the 1950s, Youth for Christ had become an international ministry as local YFC movements emerged in cities across the globe.

A significant milestone in this global expansion took place in 1968. During a gathering on the Caribbean island of Jamaica, leaders representing Youth for Christ ministries from multiple countries came together to form the International Council of Youth for Christ. Dr. Sam Wolgemuth was appointed as the first International President, helping establish a unified structure to support, connect, and strengthen the growing international movement.

Today, Youth for Christ International serves as a collaborative network of nationally led ministries in more than 100 countries. Each local YFC ministry is uniquely shaped by its culture and context, yet all share the same mission: to engage young people in authentic, Christ-centered relationships and invite them into God’s story of hope and transformation.
Across schools, communities, and places where youth are searching for belonging and purpose, YFC leaders and volunteers walk alongside the next generation—offering mentorship, compassion, and the life-changing message of the Gospel.

For more than half a century, Youth for Christ has remained rooted in its enduring motto:
